Most EXPENSIVE Military Mistakes

From cleaning up big environmental blunders to decsions that lead to a big waste of money, here are most expensuve military mistakes.
    12. Blue Devil Airship
Known for being one of the US’s recently scrapped projects, the blue devil airship was set to be a bizarre looking blimp the size of a football field for use in Afghanistan. About 7 times larger than a goodyear blimp, It was designed to steal data and spy on people from 4 miles up in the sky. It had doesn’t of video systems which would be used for scoping out targets during the day and at night. It was considered to be a wide-area airborne surveillance system and the government invested a whopping 211 million dollars into the project. Technical problems kept showing up with overweight tailfins and the expectations of the cameras that were supposed to be equipped were far below what they wanted. In June of 2011, the project was sold back to the contractor for 1/1000 of the price.

    11. Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle
The expeditionary fighting vehicle was an unconventional amphibious assault vehicle built for the US Marine corps that would have rivaled the US abrams tank for mobility and agility. It could also equipe 17 soldiers and a 7 man crew making it a formidable transport vehicle. It was designed to also detonate underwater mines and clear the way for bigger ships that would follow their lead. It didn’t turn out to be quite so revolutionary in the end and the cost per unit would reach 22 million dollars each. Several prototypes rolled off the assembly line with reliability issues and they needed constant maintenance. For every 4 hours of operation, it would require at least one hour of maintenance which just wasn’t efficient enough. More affordable options were considered and the secretary of defense announced the cancelling of the project in January of 2011. By then, the amount spent already reached $3.3 billion making it a big money waster. .

    10. Agent Orange Vietnam
Agent orange was used in a herbicidal warfare program Vietnam conflict by the US military and has destroyed countless acres of land and ruined lives long after it was used. It contains one of deadliest chemicals that occurs in nature but can be produced in larger quantities a production facility. Also created by Monsanto, this is one of the reasons why people don’t trust gmo’s and pesticides created by this company. The Red Cross claims the effects of this toxin has resulted in serious birth defects from Children in Central and Southern Vietnam. Agent orange was banned by the US and in 1971 the stockpile was destroyed on a remote island 700 miles south of Hawaii. Since it was sprayed in so many places, in still gets in the food of unfortunate Vietnamese people to this day. The environmental impacts are also quite unsettling when you take a look at this forest east of Saigon. It’s also hard to put a price on this mistake but lawsuits, and clean up efforts have easily cost over 100’s of millions worth in damage from around the world.

    9. Alenia C-27J Spartan
Even though the americans have dozens of different transport planes, they decided to invest quite a bit of dough in planes that would be able to land on unpaved areas and on shorter runways the Hercules. After about 18 or so of these were originally built, but the air force basically just decided that they no longer needed or wanted them. With each one costing about 32 million dollars each, it almost just seems like too big of an investment to just give up on. Pretty much as soon as the delivery for the order of the planes arrived, they were shipped off to the arizona desert for storage meaning 600 million dollars totally went to waste. It’s believed that in an attempt to create jobs in ohio, a contractor pushed the military who didn’t really even want them. The US has made some attempts to sell them to other countries
    8. Missing Greenland Nukes
In 1968, the USA agreed to beef up their military presence on the nearly inhospitable landmass known as greenland. We felt as though the soviets would possibly strike this location first, due to its strategic location in the northeast. B-52 commonly patrolled the sky, ready to demolish multiple cities if asked to do so. No one knows for sure why it crashed but the bomber crashed off the coast into the Baffin bay and once again, everything went missing including 4 hydrogen bombs. The USA officials had claimed to have found the weapons and demolished them however, according to declassified documents that’s not the case! While we do have proof the pilot was okay, the wmd’s not so much. Trying to look the misplaced wmd’s in the frigid and dark conditions of the arctic was certainly no easy task. While some of the wreckage was recovered in operation chrome dome, it’s still believed one complete hydrogen bomb was not recovered. Danish citizens who worked at thule were also granted compensation after many were diagnosed with cancer.

How about doing something on most EXPENSIVE social mistakes, like welfare dependency that is creating massive generations of basement dwellers who have dropped out of society and creating massive drug use.........which draws migrants to risk their lives to cross the border illegally and are abused by employers, along with our school system that manages to drop year by year in the World rankings because they have stopped teaching academics and only social issues.........that you should be concerned about, eventually America won't be able to have taxes to pay for any military equipment and the quality of life will drop to 3rd World status......

This video barely scratched the surface as far as the ultimate costs relating to the herbicide Agent Orange (AO) -- a.k.a. “Dioxin.” Any Vietnam veteran who stepped foot in Vietnam (served in-country) even just for one day, is considered to have been (or have had the opportunity to have been) exposed to AO. The best estimate that the Department of Defense can conclude is that between 2,709,918 to 3,173,845 American GI's served in-country in Vietnam. Beginning in the mid-1980s, the American Academy of Sciences has produced a growing list of now 14 different presumptive illnesses associated with exposure to AO, almost exclusively to Vietnam veterans. Many of these conditions are very common ailments that veterans would have developed, despite presumptive exposure to AO. But the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) MUST necessarily presume that an AO-related condition was indeed caused by exposure to AO, whether or not the Vietnam veteran was actually exposed to AO. These 14 presumptive conditions include some very common illnesses, such as heart disease, prostate cancer, and Type 2 Diabetes, as well deadlier diseases, such as lung cancer, Parkinson’s Disease and B-cell Leukemias, as well as less common but also deadly diseases. The VA pays out tens of $Billions each year to Vietnam veterans, due to presumptive exposure to AO. Moreover, the VA compensates hundreds of thousands of surviving spouses of deceased Vietnam veterans, because the veterans’ deaths were presumed to have been caused by exposure to AO. Surviving children have also been paid $Millions in education expenses. When tallied up, AO use in Vietnam has cost the U.S. government hundreds of $Billions, and will continue to cost untold $Billions for the foreseeable future. I have a great deal of knowledge in this area, because I worked for many years in assisting thousands of veterans file for service-connected disability compensation, as well as having assisted thousands of family members file for survivor and other VA compensation. It is also noteworthy that Vietnamese citizens who have claimed AO-related illnesses have had their claims mostly denied by the U.S. government. If such Vietnam citizens’ claims were also granted, it would surely end up costing the U.S. government hundreds of $Billions in additional AO-related compensation.

While Camp LeJeune is the largest superfund cleanup site, and Hanford is also one of the largest, there are A LOT of other contaminated U.S. military bases, or former bases that are also superfund cleanup sites, 142 in total. There are also many overseas contaminated sites. Many of these sites will take decades to clean up. Some may never be completely cleared of contamination. Besides exposure to Agent Orange (AO), you must also include asbestos exposure – especially to U.S. Navy veterans who worked in main machinery spaces onboard ships, as well as both veterans and civilian personnel who were exposed to asbestos in shipyards, especially in removing asbestos from ships. You must also take into consideration the thousands of military veterans and civilians (the vast majority of whom are now deceased) who were exposed to ionizing radiation during atomic weapons testing. Back in the 1950s and 1960s, it was very common for people to observe nuclear explosions close up, with only specialized sunglasses for protection. Back then, almost nobody even took into consideration just how dangerous it was to be exposed to nuclear explosions so close to the detonation sites. In fact, it was seen as being pretty awesome to witness. Unfortunately, diseases related to exposure to ionizing radiation are terminal in nature. There have been $Billions spent in compensation to those who died of exposure to ionizing radiation, as well as survivor benefits for their spouses.

No wonder the American DEBT.It seems they had money for nothing,They could and did just print what ever amount they wanted and some more.As the dollar has nothing to do with the gold, they justrency print and use. As many people say, sooner or later or when they want to and when it suits them, they willl kill the dollar as it is. With the increase of counteries stopping to use the dollar and moveing to local currencies like the Chinese currencey ,specially when China promises easy Exchange of money for Gold, which America can't do. There are other counteries useing Gold to pay for oil. Oil for dollars is disappearing fast and it is this that has kept the dollar choice of currency for trade other than oil. It will be interesting to see the results which I hope are not as bad as we are hearing.God help the World.

the biggest mistake is the idea that landing a C17 on an aircraft carrier would be feasible. And about the B2 problem, I don’t think a missile much more a nuclear missile being launched at a country would be a better alternative to a bomber entering your airspace. One way ticket to nuclear war

While you hate on the F-35 now just like you lil snowflakes like to do. I think that would change if you had done some research. Because now that pilots have got some air time; I believe most of the comments about F-35 has been positive. Also you need to realize the F-35 isn't designed to be in a dogfight it's designed to take out enemy aircraft before they know they've been toned. Also with as many countries wanting to purchase our F-35 their not going to coast the U.S. as much as you think after their sold for huge mark-up for a striped aircraft. I hope my comment didn't trigger,or offend you. HaHaHaHaHahahahaaaaa........... I apologize I couldn't hold it back any longer I don't care if I triggered you,or not.
