Here's Why the BMW 850CSi Was the Best BMW of the 1990s

Someone in the UK i know has one of these and he took me for a spin in it one day. I remember him showing me that it will go from 1st gear straight into 6th gear and still pull away fine, due to being a very torque-y engine. Back then (2002ish) he wanted £20k for it, wonder what he wants for it at todays prices. He still has it i believe. He did his apprenticeship at our local BMW car garage before setting up on his own, so it must be the best looked after version of one of these cars in the world.

My biggest criticism about Doug scores is the standard for each category appears that he is making his assessments based on standards of today not at the period when any of his cars were in production. My Toyota Camry today is faster than a Mustang of the 1970s... does that make my Camry score higher in Doug’s mind. I think not. This is why I don’t like his Doug score. He establishes no standard.

You can't beat the old BMW's. The new ones are not built to last with all the engine and electrical problems. I own a E39 530d sport and would never change it for these newer cars. The build quality is also alot better on the older BMW's

Your score ratings are VERY poor, i mean each car has a different category, how the fuck can you compare a 20 year old car acceleration to modern ones? without being biased and hypocritical you should compare them with its age and day ones, i mean all the classic cars would always have poor ratings

They need to replace the display parallel cable, the elements of the display are NOT burned out at all as they are just not receiving a signal to turn on due to the faulty cable that as it ages shrinks back from proper contact. Easy fix.

Doug, I heard a talk from a higher up in the M division of BMW NA at the BavAuto Show n' Shine a few years ago. There was one of these there and he said this is a true M, BMW just decided to not call it an M at the last minute. He was quite insistent this was really an M car in disguise.

Doug, why is it you talk down about things in one car brand but praise it in another? You talk down about the air conditioning controls in this case because it uses a wheel that turns from blue to red as if it's dinosaur technology when the RR raises the exact same wheel in their car in 2019 and in that case you said it was "a great traitor and the car maker is going back to basics" blah blah but in that way of thinking than this IS the basics. Please be less biased making your videos. The same exact feature can't be cool in one car and a stupid thing in another. And that's just one example. There's many many more of those times that you've done that.

Kind of an early version of a "sport" mode. This was one of the first electronic throttle cars and it changed the mapping/response to the pedal. I think the S(port)/K(omfort) switch also adjusted the rear shocks on the 850i/Ci (the CSi had permanently stiffer and lowered shocks).

You can't give a score to this superior 1995 car on a video made in 2018. Using your present knowledge of car advancement you make a mistake by comparing it to modern cars and that isn't fair at all, even tho 850 is better than most of them today.

Why keep so many people saying that this V12 is the basis for the engine in the McLaren F1? They're both V12's but the similarities ends there. The M8 that was never produced but had more similarities. The famous race and BMW's M engine builder Paul Rosche said the McLaren V12 engine have most similarities with the E36 M3 Euro spec engine. The V12 in the McLaren F1 are actually two S50B32 (unavailable in the US) with a different VANOS system for higher rpms.
